The first date was actually a movie back in 2018 where Gaby and Nick, having just been introduced, sat next to each other. Gaby, who has the memory of an elephant, says the date was July 14, 2018 and the movie was called Skyscraper. Nick, who has the memory of a bacterium, can't recall but says it was like being a couple, even though they barely knew more than each other's names.
Fast forward several years of expat life - brunches, festivals, coffees, chance meetings, brunches, "hello how are yous" and "all well thanks, where did you go on your holiday" exchanges. Brunches. Christmas. New Year. Halloween. Diwali ... and suddenly a bit of space, a chat on a balcony, a chance to wind back to that original cinematic time capsule; to discover that we were living 500 yards from one another and...would you like to go on a date? Of course.
Time unfolds like a flower, where petals that bloom are furled tightly inside the bud first of all. Gaby says she manifested Nick many years ago. Nick says being with Gaby is like coming home. Perhaps it all started when we were six, who knows? We're old enough to have been burned by love and delighted to have been given a shiny new chance at it. Like the Owl and the Pussycat, hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, we'll dance by the light of the moon, the moon, we'll dance by the light of the moon.
